Exhibition Ewoud De Groot and Pieter Vanden Daele

Who is Ewoud De Groot?

With his strong sense of perception, this Dutch artist records nature with century old techniques and an unique perspective. We already knew his paintings with seagulls, plovers, oystercatchers, owls and birds of prey, typically inspired by the shores of Northern Europe. A brand new series of king eiders now joins his repertoire. In Knokke we are able to witness the absolute premiere of his new collection – about 25 oil paintings. They show us what Ewoud calls his ‘North American scenes’, such as bisons and moose. The Dutchman paints the animals in a photorealistic style. The landscapes and compositions originate from his imagination and thusly he composes them into thrilling images. Ewoud enjoys a great reputation in the USA and participates yearly in the most important wildlife museum exhibitions. In the States he is being represented by no less than 10 galleries and last February one of his works was auctioned off for a record price?

Who is Pieter Vanden Daele?

Pieter Vanden Daele has been fascinated by the aquatic world ever since childhood, more specifically fish and frogs caught his attention. When one looks at his bronzes of ‘his’ aquatic animals, one is able to see powerful, expressive sculptures and the exorbitant amount of detailed textures that sets apart his work. Please, pay attention to the expression in the fish’s eyes. They highlight an open, somewhat human look. By adding this detail, the artist wants us to recognize ourselves in the sculptures and for us to open ourselves up to the world of our regular, native species. He thusly hopes to help the effort of the conservation of these animals. Pieter Vanden Daele exhibits his sculptures in Knokke, but also in the Netherlands, the U.K., France, the USA and Canada.
